Is the nationality of the applicant a criterion?
This program is designed for writers from and in the Arab World or feel they relate to this part of the world as “home.” Priority is given to people based in the Arab World.

Is the age of the applicant a criterion?
No.

Can I apply again if I was not selected?
Yes, but we would encourage you to apply with a different project.

Can I apply with two different writing projects for the same open call?
Yes, but we receive a high number of applications and the selection process is extremely competitive; it is therefore doubtful that both your projects would be selected.

I am a self-published writer; can I apply for this program?
Applicants must have a publisher interested in publishing their upcoming work.

Can I realize a different project after being selected?
No, the selection is done based on the project submitted in the application.

Are audio books eligible for this program?
Yes.

Are graphic novels eligible for this program?
No.

Are movie scenarios eligible for this program?
No.

Are theatre plays eligible for this program?
Yes.

Are translation works eligible for this program?
No.

Can I apply with an academic research thesis?
No.

If I have already received a grant from another Mophradat program, can I still apply for the Writing Sabbaticals?
Yes, but only if the programs do not overlap in time and content.

Are applications written in English instead of Arabic more likely to be selected?
No, the selection is based solely on the merit of the application submitted and are assessed by bilingual advisors.

May I be informed of why my application was not selected?
Due to the high volume of applications and the confidentiality of the selection process, we don’t provide individual feedback explaining why an application was not selected.
